Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens has always been my evergreen favorite author for his brilliant works which one cannot resist. But it is not only today that we realize his worth and extol him, it has been so even in the past years. Dickens has been the most famous author who ever lived.....and the only one who had his clothes ripped off by fans!!! You can read more about the famous author on Wikipedia.



It has been said that if there was ever a magazine for celebrities at that time, Dickens would certainly have featured on the front page of something called "Fashion from Boston"! He was certainly a very Mr. Popular. While in New York, Charles complained that he had multitude of followers as soon as he turned into the street.


Nonetheless he enjoyed his celebrity status. But did you all know that Charles Dickens had his clothes ripped off by crazy book fans at that time. I'm sure he's even famous than any other celebrity of our time, having clothes ripped off!

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

David Copperfield is a classic novel written by the beloved author, Charles Dickens.

The book unfurls an exuberant rendition of the adventures of David as we face interesting characters and a well developed plot. The story continues with a well balanced blend of comedy, tragedy, treachery, love, honesty and brimming with energy.

The Plot

This is another beautiful rendition of the adventures of a juvenile soul. Deserted by a helpless mother and compelled by an imperious father, David finally decides it is time…time he lived his own life!

It takes you on a a ride through the life of young David, his hatred for his step-father and Aunt, Mr. Edward Murdstone and Jane. They torment him and finally send him to a boarding school where David becomes friends with Tommy Traddles and James Steerforth.

Then the novel returns again with a more matured David, after his mother’s and new-born half brother’s death. He takes work at a factory and the book describes the harsh cruelty of life. When his landlord, Wilkins Micawber goes to prison after bankruptcy, David flees from London as he has nobody.

My Thoughts

Turning the last page, this book gave me a satisfied smile and a naive sadness that it was over. This is a wonderful recipe of life with all you can ask for. A trifle bit sour but magically unfolds an indelible taste of sweetness and exquisite happiness. I am you all will enjoy it so why not pick a copy now?

Hello friends! You must have often heard tit-bits about great authors and what they perceived made them write well. Many great writers thought that different things were their lucky quotient ( just like we all do at times!) but something really easy and fascinating of all of them were the thoughts of Charles Dickens, the renowned author.

Did you know that Charles Dickens slept facing North? And the sole reason for this was that he thought it improved his writing ability! Now...now...I hear you all asking "Why have I been slogging with a pen and paper then??" But its not so...They say success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration!

Just the same way, continue writing but also try this idea along with it. Who knows when your lucky star may shine??

Great Expectations - by Charles Dickens

This is a classic novel and probably one of the greatest, written by the famous author, Charles Dickens.

This is a fascinating story about a young orphaned boy named Pip, who is being raised by his sadistic sister. His life changes when he meets an escaped convict while visiting his parents' grave. The book describes his journey to become a gentleman and how an unknown benefactor helps him.

His meetings with a weird old lady, Miss Havisham who has not seen the first dawn of the day or let a streak of the bright morning sun reach her after her ruined wedding. She raises a proud yet immensely beautiful girl called Estella to have her revenge on men.

The book also describes his meetings with Estella and his affection for her, the wealth he gained and his love for his family, especially good old Joe, his sister's benevolent husband with a true heart. The book ends making a true London Gentleman out of the 7 year old orphaned petty boy he was and a startling discovery about his benefactor!

While in London Pip makes friends, learns the art of rich living, becomes a gentleman yet he is not happy. His second and the most treasured dream of getting married to Estella is still unfulfilled. Will he be able to accomplish it?

According to me, this is one of the best books by Charles Dickens and I really enjoyed reading it. An interesting story full of the harsh realties of city life.

Charles Dickens and the Rotten Eggs!

We all know that Charles was a fabulous writer. But I can already see your questioning eyes asking me what he has to do with rotten eggs, eh? He had a great career in writing, but Charles aspired to be something else, something different! He wanted to be a comic actor! Ah! That’ is what I call a true perfectionist!

But unfortunately he was not too good at this! Never afraid of a bit of showing off, Charles would pay theater managers to allow him to act on stage in front of rowdy London audiences. But the audience didn’t appreciate it. Eventually he gave up the idea of a career in acting but he continued with amateur dramatics all his life. I suppose he should stick to writing those well known novels rather than let rotten eggs be thrown at him while on stage!
